CLEARANCE by Anita Sullivan
In brief: Clearance takes place on the lawn in front of Lord A's country house. This stately pile having been repossessed following newspaper rumours concerning his profligacy. Amidst the chaos of the cleared furniture, a woman and a boy swap stories to pass the time. It soon becomes apparent, however, that their stories have the power to cause pain and spawn violence. The arrival of a prominent public figure heralds a disturbing chain of events involving a manipulation of truth and the abuse of power.
First performed in May 1996 at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh.
