DECKY DOES A BRONCO
Written by Douglas Maxwell
Directed by Ben Harrison
Breaking news! Decky Does a Bronco actor Martin McCormick was nominated for The Stage Award for Best Actor at the 2010 Edinburgh Fringe. Although Martin didn't win the award it was a great achievement to be nominated and we'd like to congratulate the winner, Scott Kyle from Singin' I'm No a Billy, He's a Tim.
To bronco a swing you stand on it, worky up to the bumps, level with the bar, kick the swing over your head and jump beneath it.
Douglas Maxwell
It’s summer and school’s out. Five lads act out their dreams and fears in their local playground in Scotland. Their game, known as ‘broncoing’, is fast and dangerous. Broncoing is a sign of manhood – which Decky and his friends all impatiently await. Little do they know how suddenly and abruptly it will be forced upon them this summer…
This Scotsman Fringe First and Stage Award winning show is an outdoor theatrical event unlike any other. Eight actors – all trained acrobats – play out this powerful and vivid tale of childhood innocence and the perilous passage into adulthood.
Decky Does a Bronco has been on tour all over Scotland and England since June. Here's what some of the critics think of our tenth anniversary remount production:
“the sheer force and depth of Maxwell's study of an end of childhood, and abrupt loss of innocence, brings teats to the eyes. Ben Harrison's production is more thrillingly physical than ever...outstanding performances... the writing is beautiful."
**** The Scotsman
“A decade's directing experience has certainly given Harrison's production a slickness it never had before, and not just in the impressively choreographed feats of boyish bravado. Maxwell's play seems deeper somehow, a melancholy mix of innocence and experience beyond the playfighting."
**** The Herald
