FERMENTATION based on the novel by Angelica Jacob, adapted by Ben Harrison
I
n brief: Fermentation is the story of Odissa, a young French writer who falls pregnant to enigmatic fire-eater Serge. A heatwave enshrouds the country and a refuse strike leaves the streets littered with rubbish. The heat, stench and a growing craving for cheese curiously lead Odissa into a sexual fantasy world both shocking and beautiful. A chance encounter begins her eductaion in the world of cheese-making until, finally, she issues forth the fruit of her own labour. Her own little hand-made babe.


First performed in January 2002 in association with the Citizens' Theatre at the Briggait Market, Glasgow and the Underbelly, Edinburgh.
